In her second-to-last game in front of the home fans, Kaela Chapdelaine had a career performance.
The Oregon senior, who has appeared in 119 games in her four years, carried the Ducks to a 66-55 women's basketball victory against UCLA at McArthur Court on Saturday.
Chapdelaine scored 25 points and made all six of her three-pointers - both career highs — to go with six rebounds and six assists.
"Being loose and having fun," Chapdelaine said. "I only have two games left here, including this one. I'm trying to make the most of my time."
Chapdelaine was on the bench for a three-minute stretch early in the second half during which UCLA put the finishing touches on a 13-2 run that turned Oregon's seven-point halftime lead into a 36-32 advantage for the Bruins.
When Chapdelaine re-entered with 13:44, she went off, scoring all 17 of her second-half points, including four three-pointers.
"I think I just played within the game, played within myself," she said. "When I had my shots, I took them. When I had a pass to make to somebody open, I made that. I just played the game the way it was. I never felt the need to take over the game. Tonight was just a special night. It was nothing out of the ordinary."
Chapdelaine paused briefly before correcting herself.
"Well, maybe it is," she said before laughing.
Chapdelaine came into the game averaging a career-best seven points a game, but in the Ducks' loss to Southern California on Thursday, she scored just five, went 2-for-9 from the field and missed on all five of her three-point attempts.
"You just gotta forget about it," Chapdelaine said. "The shots I took on Thursday night weren't necessarily bad shots, it was just how I felt shooting. Some of them felt good, some of them didn't. Today, I just felt good about all my shots."
Oregon coach Bev Smith knew Chapdelaine was feeling it early in the game when she swished through her first two three-point attempts and scored on a reverse layup in the first half.
"When she hits her first few shots, it's a sign she's ready to go and we did a great job finding her," Smith said.
Chapdelaine's three-point shooting also helped open things up offensively for Oregon.
"Six-for-six? That's pretty good," teammate Taylor Lilley said. "She just spread their defense out for the entire game. They had to know where she was at all times, so that just took the pressure off the perimeter players.
"Even just her energy, you know, the rebounds, the assists, she just played an overall great game."
As the losses mounted for Oregon - it had lost eight of nine before Saturday — and the days in her college career dwindled away, Chapdelaine admitted it started to get to her.
"It had," she said. "I'm a very competitive person. I play to win and the losing has been hard. It's been wearing on me physically and mentally and emotionally."
But the team came out loose on Saturday, she said, and everyone was relaxed during warmups and the game, for the first time in a long time, was fun.
"I love this place," the senior guard said. "I've been here five years and it's coming to an end. I just want to have good memories."
