MISSOULA, Mont. — All five Oregon starters scored in double figures, but Nicole Canepa came off the bench for a team-high 18 points in an 86-81 victory over Montana in nonconference women’s basketball on Sunday.
Amanda Johnson finished with 17 points and 15 rebounds for the Ducks (2-0), who became only the third visiting team in the last 52 games at Dahlberg Arena to defeat the Grizzlies (0-3).
Canepa scored six points, including the field goal that gave Oregon the lead for good, in the final 3:47 while breaking her career scoring high for the second straight game. She also had nine rebounds.
Taylor Lilley added 15 points for Oregon, which led 38-32 at the half. Montana rallied in the second half on the strength of 56.3 percent shooting from the field, but the Ducks shot 50.0 percent to hold off the Grizzlies.
Nia Jackson had 12 points in her second start, and Victoria Kenyon and Micaela Cocks added 11 each, as the UO starters plus Canepa accounted for all but two of the team’s points.
Oregon hosts Santa Clara in another nonconference game at 7 p.m. Tuesday at McArthur Court.
Oregon State 70, Houston Baptist 42: Kristen Tilleman had 26 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Beavers (2-1) to the nonconference road victory.
Tilleman shot 9-for-11 from the field and 8-for-11 from the free-throw line as the only OSU scorer in double figures.
Nebraska 107, Washington State 54: Six Cornhuskers (4-0) scored in double figures and Nebraska built a 39-point halftime lead in rout to the nonconference rout in Lincoln. KiKi Moore led the Cougars with 13 points.
Gonzaga 81, Washington 52: Courtney Vandersloot had a double-double with 18 points and 11 assists to lead the host Bulldogs (3-1) as the defending West Coast Conference champions opened the game on an 18-2 run. Regina Rogers led the Huskies (1-2) with 12 points
